Students Of St Andrew's School Visit KACA Centre
By Muris
Bandar Seri Begawan - Some 38 students of St Andrew's School,
comprising mostly Form 5S1 students, visited the KACA Centre
recently as part of their community outreach activity.
It marked the first time that such a programme has ever been held by
the academic institution, according to its principal, Jane Keasberry,
who also joined the trip and added that similar projects are being
planned.
The students -15 and 16 years of age - were led by Tu Shu Yee. They
found it challenging and the experience has also taught them to be
more appreciative of what they have in life, as well as to be kind,
and that a small gesture can go a long way.

St Andrews School to turn 50
By Nasroul
Hizam
Bandar Seri Begawan - WITH ample time until April, the St Andrews
School has been busy preparing for its golden jubilee anniversary.
The school is planning to hold exhibitions and funfairs in honour of
the school's 50 years.
The main highlight of the celebrations would be the gala dinner
where previous students of St Andrews School will not only be able
to meet their friends and colleagues from when they were children
and teenagers but also their old teachers.
It is hoped that with the golden jubilee, it will provide an
opportunity for those with very fond memories of the school to
reunite and reminisce on the good old days.
The celebration sees the cooperation between school's students,
teachers and staff, Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the St Andrews
Alumni and the Board of Governors.
According to Assistant Deputy Principal, Gladys Yee, it is that
cooperation combined with commitment and dedication that has kept St
Andrews top on the list.
She said that Parents have been extremely supportive, allowing their
children to attend practice sessions as extra on top of everything
else the students do on normal schooldays.
She anticipates that the most exciting part of the celebration will
be the reunion and seeing people coming back to the school to share
the moment with. The alumni is currently busy approaching colleagues
and friends to spread the word and to make the event as grand as
possible.
Principal, Iris Jane Keasberry pointed out how the school's greatest
achievement can be seen by its 'products', the students who have
become successful professionals in Brunei Darussalam as well as
abroad.
She told The Brunei Times about a student from the school who was
studying in the National University of Singapore and became the
first students to ever win five gold awards during his graduation.
The Deputy Principal, Chong Ah Fok, estimated that preparations are
currently at 40 percent but should pick up since practices for
National Day are out of the way but will only be able to go into
full swing after assessments at the end of the week. Seeing as to
how even the kindergarten students will be putting on a show, he
mused how the celebrations will be in line with the theme Tunas
Bangsa.
Having started off with an intake of 70 students and three teachers,
St Andrews School has progressed into a well-known educational
institution with an enrolment of more than 1,700 in 48 classes and
over 100 teaching and non-teaching staff.

St Andrews receives boost
By Syed Rory Malai Hassan
Bandar Seri Begawan - THE St Andrew's School, in the capital,
received a charitable donation of $10,416 which generously was
handed over by the Eric Goh Trust Fund, yesterday.
The contribution was to help the school purchase computers for its
IT studies programme.
A spokesman for the Eric Goh Trust Fund yesterday emphasised the
importance of computers in the increasingly globalised and
technologically-advancing world especially as it is beginning to
play a more dominant role in education.
Jake Goh, representing the trust fund, presented the cheque to Jacob
Chin, principal of St Andrew's school at the Goh Hock Kee Showroom
in Beribi.
According to Jake Goh, the trust fund was established in 1999 in
memory of his late brother, Eric Goh, with a goal to help those who
were in need and the less fortunate through contributions and
sponsorships of various charity organisations and individuals in the
